Blesbok

Latin name: Damaliscus pygargus.

Origin: South Africa.

Other name: White-fronted Damaliscus a species of mammal in the bovid family.

Color: Dark brown.

The blesbock's horn is composed of keratin. This means that the horns can be flattened or heat-molded (water, oil or fire) to make handles, for example.

The blesbok horn (or blesbuck) is a distinctive feature of the blesbok antelope (Damaliscus pygargus phillipsi), a species of antelope native to South Africa. Both males and females of this species have horns, but those of males are generally larger and more robust. The horns are "S"-shaped and light brown with a black tip. Blesboks are prized for their beauty and their presence in some of southern Africa's reserves and parks.

Blesbok horn has been used historically in certain African cultures to make a variety of craft and utilitarian objects. As a material, blesbok horn is valued for its strength, resistance and beautiful natural appearance. It can be cut, carved and polished to create knife handles, jewelry, ornaments and other decorative objects.
