Zebu horn and epoxy resin - original french creation : the pearly horn

PRESENTATION :

Horn, without the constraints of the animal product with organic resin. Based on flaked horn in a special mill, we add resin loaded with pearlescent dyes. The resin used is a BIO epoxy resin.

By working the horn, we generate a lot of "by-products" unusable for cutlery. Since a few years, the European regulation does not allow to sell them as fertilizer. So we are going to recycle them with the PEARLY HORN. And by the way we give back to the horn its letters of nobility.

As far as resin is concerned, we of course respect the drastic European regulations. For this innovation we have chosen to use an organic epoxy resin, formulated in France.

Our two research axes were to obtain a material with aesthetic and mechanical qualities. The machining tests: cutting, drilling, sanding and polishing are very conclusive.

USEFUL INFORMATION:

We have worked on the industrialization of the manufacturing process. But to obtain a regular result with this aspect we have to work on thin plates (up to 10 mm; impossible to manufacture in thick blocks).

Colors available today: Blue, aluminum, copper, khaki, green and gold. We have chosen to propose, from the launch, 6 colors in order to allow knifemakers to dress boxes of 6 knives.

The choice of the BIO epoxy resin presents a difficulty: The PEARLY HORN cannot support the dishwasher.
