Origin: Southern Europe and North Africa.

Colour: orange to brown.

Comments: It can become a small tree, usually it has the size of a shrub. Its fragrant and resinous wood takes a beautiful polish. It was once fired by distillation of cade oil. It is from this wood that the brand Cadum came from.

Mediterranean shrub, the Cade – Junipperus Oxycedorus – meets in the Garrigues and on the dry slopes of the south. Variety of juniper, its leaves are longer and marked with two white stripes. The fruits are brown red and grow from April to November. Fumigations of its wood were used in the past to purify the atmosphere and remove insects. Perfume cabinets, it is the most powerful natural antimite. The Cade is also known for the essential oil extracted from the heart of the wood and whose disinfectant, anti-allergic and healing properties make it part of the composition of many soaps and dermatological products.

In aromatherapy, Cade's essential oil has toning and sanitizing properties.

Burning Cade is a practice that goes back to the dawn of time.
In the Middle Ages, the mid-day peasant came out of the theatre with a lion to repel insects and absorb odours. We lent to the Cade, sacred wood, many other virtues including that of driving away witches. Of which we are not certain.. But what we're sure of is that the cade fire is bactericidal.
