Other names: purple, Cayenne mahogany, purpleheart (Suriname), pau roxo (Brazil), saka, koroboreli, sakavali (Guyane).
Origin: South America.
Colour: amarante (it has a purple pink, hence its name).
Remarks : The color is not permanent, under the effect of light it gradually turns into deep brown after several years. The wood is fine grain and regular to thread generally straight. Amarant wood is also used in leather and marquetry.
