Calceon™ is an innovative material resulting from a unique fusion of natural calcite formations, originating from ancient hot springs, stabilized under high pressure and vacuum with a partially bio-based resin.

The use of this resin enhances resistance to heat and wear, while allowing for a significant share of renewable materials, without compromising quality.

The base of Raffir Calceon™ consists of natural calcite formations that develop over centuries in mineral-rich freshwater springs.
The fine structures of the material mainly originate from the local vegetation that once grew in and around the springs before disappearing, leaving the porous mineral structure with distinct organic patterns.
The natural origin of the base material ensures that each piece of Raffir Calceon™ presents its own unique expression of the grain structures.
In other words, each piece tells its own story of how it was shaped by nature over centuries.

Machining & Finishing:

  • Easy to work: standard tools for wood, horn or bone are sufficient (diamond tools optional)

  • Resin provides good hardness and high thermal stability, enabling polishing to a bright, high-quality finish

  • Cutting: band saw or circular saw with fine blade

  • Drilling: carbide drill bit recommended at low speed

  • Sanding: progressive grits (120–2000), avoid overheating

  • Polishing: fine polishing compound for mirror finish

  • Maintenance: gentle wiping, avoid acidic or abrasive products

  • Safety: wear a dust mask during machining (mineral + resin dust)
    Protective goggles recommended

Recommended Applications:

  • Knife handle scales

  • Spacers, inlays

  • Decorative elements such as weapon handles, furniture parts, jewellery, etc
