Mercorne partners with "Tannerie Sovos", quality French leather

Located in the small town of Thillot, in the heart of the Vosges, the Sovos Grosjean Tannery has been in operation since 1864. The company has survived many tragedies, between wars and economic crises. It was awarded the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (Living Heritage Company) label for maintaining and passing on its know-how.

In 2010, after a negative balance sheet was filed, a handful of employees joined forces and took over the business.

At this turning point, the shareholders and employees decide to separate themselves from the wet part, or "river work", which is the first step of the tanning process. It was too restrictive for the workforce. The Sovos Tannery prefers to specialize in the second stage of tanning: leather finishing.

The choice of a hide quality, a grain, a thickness, a color and an aspect (shiny, matte, waxed...) constitutes all the steps that define the finishing of a leather.

Today, bull hides, of French origin, are received pre-tanned and pre-dyed in many different colors.

The different steps that constitute the know-how of Tannerie Sovos are the sorting and classification of the hides, the preparation of the colors, the sampling and the application of the different layers of mixtures on the surface of the hide.

The entire team of the SOVOS Tannery combines its skills to produce the most beautiful custom-made leathers on demand.

A quality, put to the test by the ISO 9001 certification and the REACH standard, which confirms the implication of each one in the engaged approach.

Already working for local cutlers (Didot Knife, Didier Moinel, Les Couteaux D'Hure...) the tannery develops some products with finishes adapted to this use. It is therefore quite natural that Mercorne and SOVOS have joined forces to offer their customers leathers for cutlery.
