Description

Latin name: Betula pubescens.

Origin: Denmark - by RAFFIR

Other names: birch from Finland, birch maser, birch from Carinthia.

Origin (natural): Northern Europe on peat bogs and wetlands / stabilisation in France

Comments : This wood is dense and easy to work. In cutlery and cabinet making, it is the twisted trunks and burls that are sought after. They produce a wood known as "madré", i.e. brown veined or spotted with a beautiful effect, suitable for veneering. birch is a natural material used in cutlery. The craftsmen at our French company, which specialises in the manufacture of materials for cutlery, offer birch stabilised wood of the highest quality, treated to strict standards. This material, which is both attractive and strong, is ideal for making knife handles, adding a touch of elegance to your cutting tools.

Stabilised wood: Stabilising a material literally means making it more stable. In most cases, you could say that this operation consists of making it denser, using a resin. Using a process that we keep secret, we allow resin and/or colour pigments to penetrate to the core.

The result is a more homogeneous material, which is often more aesthetically pleasing because the resin (and/or the pigments) highlight(s) the designs of the stabilised piece.

In addition to the aesthetic aspects, this process makes materials with poor mechanical properties usable. In this way, wood that has been "overheated" or severely damaged is restored to its former glory.

Our catalogue: We offer a wide choice of natural wood, stabilised wood, bone, horns, cervidae, minerals, composite materials (carbon, fibreglass, etc.) and assembly accessories (screws).
