Stabilized Giant Deer Fossils | Raffir | Mercorne

The giant deer (Megaloceros giganteus), also known as the Irish elk or megaloceros, is one of the largest cervids ever to have existed. Extinct around 12,000 years ago, this Pleistocene animal could reach over two meters at the withers, with antlers spanning over 3.50 meters. Mercorne's fossils are authentic bone fragments, dating back thousands of years, extracted from peat bogs and quarries by specialized researchers - no hunting, no wild collecting.

These fossils are stabilized in Denmark by the Raffir company, of which Mercorne is the official and only reseller in France. The stabilization process consolidates the fossilized material deep down, making it precisely machinable and durable over time. The result is a unique handle material, steeped in history, that very few knife makers in the world have the opportunity to work with.
