Gabonese ebony (Diospyros crassiflora) is one of the most prized woods in the cutlery industry. Its dense, almost uniform deep-black wood takes on an exceptional polish that reveals a tight, silky grain. Resistant to humidity and wear, it is equally suited to work knives and collector's items. Its high hardness requires special tools, but the finish obtained fully justifies the effort.
At Mercorne, Gabonese ebony planks and handles have been selected over the past 34 years for their consistent color and the quality of their grain. Our materials are cut in our workshop in France to reproducible dimensions from one order to the next. For advice on choice, finishing or assembly, Olivier will personally answer your questions.
