Boxwood for knives | Blanks and handles | Mercorne

Boxwood (Buxus sempervirens) is one of the densest woods in Europe, renowned for centuries for its hardness, fine grain, and ability to achieve a polish of rare quality. Its uniform, luminous golden-yellow hue makes it an instantly recognizable material in cutlery. Very dense—around 0.90 g/cm³—it offers excellent resistance to wear and moisture, while remaining pleasant to carve and turn. Its burls, known as "broussins," are particularly prized for their unique wavy patterns.

At Mercorne, boxwood is selected for its aesthetic quality and stability. Each piece is cut in our workshop in France according to the standard sizes used in artisanal cutlery. The catalog offers blocks, blanks, and handles ready for use, in common boxwood or burl. Not sure which to choose? Olivier personally answers all your technical questions.
