The roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) is the most widespread wild deer in Europe. Its antlers, crowns, and bones have long been a material of choice for artisan knife makers seeking a material that is natural, lightweight, and full of character. Each piece is unique: the shape of the antler tips, the texture of the crown, and the natural color ranging from ivory beige to warm brown—no two handles are alike. Some of the pieces offered at Mercorne are also stabilized or stained in our workshop, which improves their durability over time and expands the available aesthetic range.
At Mercorne, we’ve been carefully selecting roe deer antler materials for 34 years. Each piece is chosen for its density, the absence of cracks, and its suitability for standard cutlery finishes. Not sure which piece or gauge is right for your project? Olivier personally answers all your technical questions.
