For knifemakers in search of extraordinary materials, stabilized mammoth ivory pulp represents the ultimate in rarity: a unique fossil material with the natural nuances of creamy ivory, here sublimated by a beige resin that has been worked in the Mercorne workshop for over three decades.
Mammoth ivory pulp comes from fossilized tusks extracted from Siberian permafrost, tens of thousands of years old. This precious material is distinguished by its natural hues ranging from creamy beige to ivory-white, sometimes crossed by subtle veins revealing the specimen's geological history. Mercorne stabilization - an impregnation process developed in-house - reinforces the density and cohesion of this organic fossil material, giving it lasting strength and a brilliant polish. The beige resin blends harmoniously with the natural tones of the ivory, emphasizing the interplay of depth and material.
In cutlery art, stabilized mammoth ivory pulp is one of the rarest and most valuable materials: its fossil origin, soft hue and natural veins give each knife an incomparable historical and aesthetic dimension. It can be worked with conventional woodworking tools, sanded to a fine grain and polished to a very fine shine. This handle is composed of 2 matching plates: the pattern on plate 1 corresponds exactly to that on plate 2. The price indicated is for the complete handle (2 plates). Mercorne has been selecting and stabilizing these materials in its workshop in France for 34 years.
We have specialized in materials for knife handles since 1992.
