Latin name: Oenocarpus batawa.
Other name: palm batawa.
Origin: Africa
Colour: spotted brown.
Comments: The "palmwood" is that of different species of palm trees. All these woods have in common to have the structure of a cable which makes the trunk flexible and almost unbreakable. Everyone has seen images of tropical storms where large palm trees are bent and shaken to the extreme but never break. This structure appears well in cross-section (end wood) obviously fragile.
Wood stabilized: Stabilizing a material literally means making it more stable, one could say in most cases that this operation consists of densifying it, using a resin. By a process that we keep secret we give heart a resin and/or pigments of color.
We thus obtain a more homogeneous and often more aesthetic material because the resin (and/or pigments) highlights the drawings of the stabilized part.
In addition to aesthetic aspects, this process makes it possible to make usable materials which had only weak mechanical qualities. Thus a wood "heated" or heavily damaged regains a nobility.
We have specialized in materials for knife sleeves since 1992.
