Origin: Denmark (stabilisation)

Comments: Although the vernacular name is horse chestnut, this species originated in Europe, more specifically in Greece and Bulgaria. The chestnut tree was introduced to France in 1615 by a certain Bachelier from Constantinople. If you're passing through Vézac (Cantal), you can see a chestnut tree that is over 400 years old. Today, it is the tree most often planted as an ornamental in European towns. Remember that our raw material comes from the veneer off-cuts of planted chestnut trees, not wild ones.

Stabilising a material literally means making it more stable. In most cases, we could say that this operation consists of densifying it, using a resin. Using a process that we keep secret, we allow resin and/or colour pigments to penetrate to the core.

The result is a more homogeneous material, which is often more aesthetically pleasing because the resin (and/or the pigments) highlight(s) the designs of the stabilised part.
