The heartwood is light red, pinkish-red or purplish, and turns dull red or reddish-brown over time.
The narrow sapwood is off-white to creamy white.
The grain is straight, even, and fine, with a characteristic cedar scent.

This wood has low shock resistance and a low modulus of elasticity.
It does not bend well with steam.
Pieces with knots, though highly decorative, require very sharp tools to achieve a good finish.
It glues and stains well, and takes a polish beautifully.

Pencils, cigar boxes, boatbuilding, linen chests, and decorative wall panelling.
Essential oils are distilled from very fine shavings.
