Block burl of stabilised poplar Red

Red stabilized poplar burl is a Mercorne creation combining the organic beauty of burl wood with the mastery of artisanal stabilization. Burr is a natural growth of the poplar tree (Populus sp.) formed over decades, whose fibers develop unique, undulating, swirling patterns, much sought-after by fine cutlers.

The Mercorne stabilization process involves impregnating the wood with a resin loaded with red pigments, according to a recipe perfected since 2006 and improved in 2020 for an odorless finish and maximum impregnation rate. The result is a dimensionally stable, moisture-resistant, mechanically robust material whose deep red hue penetrates right to the heart of the piece.

This block is easy to work with conventional woodworking tools: saw, sander, lathe. It reveals a mirror-gloss polish that enhances the burr patterns and intensifies the red color. This block is a one-off: you'll receive exactly the piece photographed.
