Description

Between the golden brown of the bark and the ivory of the heart, this European deer log plays on natural contrasts that no pigment can reproduce. A raw material with an assertive character, for cutlers who refuse the banal.

The European stag (Cervus elaphus) produces new, naturally deciduous hunting antlers every year, constituting a renewable resource with a density of 1.7 to 2.0 g/cm³. Its trabecular internal structure - a network of microchannels surrounding a compact core - gives it both mechanical strength and lightness. Natural hues range from creamy beige to warm ivory, depending on the season, age and environment of the animal. Each piece is thus a unique imprint of the animal that wore it.

In cutlery, European deer logs can be worked with conventional woodworking tools: band saws, wood lathes and sanders. It naturally takes on a satin polish that reveals the beauty of its honeycomb structure. Its lightness contributes to the knife's balance without sacrificing durability. Mercorne has been selecting and preparing these logs in its workshop in France for 34 years, checking each piece for cracks and strength before shipping.

We have specialized in materials for knife handles since 1992.
