Description

Mammoth ivory pulp is one of the rarest and most precious materials in cutlery. Taken from the inner part of the fossilized tusk of the Woolly Mammoth(Mammuthus primigenius), it is distinguished from outer ivory by its interwoven veins, warm hues ranging from cream to golden beige, and finely structured texture. These fossil materials, tens of thousands of years old, come from natural deposits mainly in Siberia, and are perfectly legal to trade in Europe.

At Mercorne, mammoth ivory pulp is stabilized using an exclusive process: core impregnation with a beige resin carefully selected to respect the material's natural tonalities. This stabilization guarantees better cohesion, eliminates potential micro-cracks and ensures superior durability over time, while preserving the authenticity of the fossil motifs.

This handle is made up of 2 matched plates: the pattern on plate 1 corresponds exactly to that on plate 2. The price indicated is for the complete handle (2 plates). This material is machined with conventional bone and ivory tools, and takes on an exceptional mirror polish that reveals all the depth and chromatic richness of the fossil pulp. Each handle is an absolutely unique piece, photographed individually: the customer receives exactly the product presented.
