Poplar burl (Populus sp.) is a woody growth with swirling patterns of rare intensity, much sought-after by cutlers for its unique character and exceptional natural figure. Stabilized in the Mercorne workshops with a turquoise tint, it offers a striking visual effect where the vivid color reveals and amplifies the wood's natural movements.

Mercorne stabilization consists of resin impregnation under vacuum and pressure, according to a proprietary recipe reformulated in 2020: odorless, with a high impregnation rate. The resulting material is denser, more homogeneous, insensitive to humidity and mechanically superior to untreated wood. It takes on a remarkable glossy polish and is easy to machine with conventional woodworking tools.
