Poplar burr (Populus sp.) is an abnormal outgrowth of wood with highly entangled fibers, creating swirling patterns of remarkable natural complexity. These structures - criss-crossing veins, tight knots and chaotic figures - offer an aesthetic rendering impossible to imitate industrially. Each block is therefore an absolutely unique piece, bearing the singular imprint of a tree.

Mercorne stabilizes poplar burls using its proprietary process developed over more than two decades: vacuum impregnation with a high-performance resin. This treatment fills the wood's pores, increases its density, homogenizes the material and makes it insensitive to humidity. Since 2020, the Mercorne recipe has been reformulated without odor and with a high impregnation rate, for even greater treatment depth and mechanical strength.

In cutlery, stabilized poplar burl is distinguished by its remarkable machinability: bandsaw cutting, milling and progressive sanding down to fine grain reveal a brilliant polish magnifying all the richness and depth of its natural patterns. This block can be freely shaped according to the dimensions and creativity of the cutler.
