Description

This handle is an encounter between the work of time and Mercorne know-how. Mammoth ivory pulp, harvested from the permafrost of Siberia, reveals itself under the effect of stabilization: a soft, beige surface with discreet reliefs that tell the story of 10,000 years of geological history.

Mammoth ivory pulp is the central part of the tusk, lighter and airier than the outer cortex. Originating from the Siberian permafrost, this fossil material takes thousands of years to form, and cannot be cultivated or reproduced. Its honeycomb structure and natural beige hues make it an exceptional material in the world of fine cutlery. Mercorne stabilization - impregnation of the core with a beige resin using an exclusive process - reinforces this material, giving it density, homogeneity and resistance to humidity, while preserving its characteristic natural color and appearance.

In cutlery, stabilized mammoth ivory pulp is machined with conventional woodworking tools: it can be cut, milled and polished to a satin or gloss finish, depending on the desired finish. This handle consists of 2 matched inserts - the pattern on insert 1 corresponds exactly to that on insert 2 - and the price shown is for the complete handle. You'll receive exactly the handle pictured: it's a unique product, with color nuances and internal structure that are unique to this piece.
