The X6Cr17, known as 430, is a ferritic stainless steel with an alloy grade of stainless steel containing more than 12% chromium. It differs from other types of stainless steel in two key aspects: its molecular granular structure and its chemical composition. It cannot be hardened.
It is generally used for knife plates and bolsters.
