Stabilized ground mammoth is a composite fossil material made from woolly mammoth tusk powder or fragments, mixed with a synthetic resin and then stabilized under pressure. This technique transforms the raw fossil material - too fragile in its natural state - into a dense, homogeneous, fully machinable material. The result: a handle with an authentic fossil character, with the patterns and nuances typical of mammoth ivory, in a controlled, reproducible format. In compliance with CITES regulations (extinct species, not subject to Appendix I for fossils), each piece is accompanied by its original documents.
At Mercorne, stabilized ground mammoth is offered in plates and bars suitable for knife handles, selected for the homogeneity of their stabilization and the richness of their fossil motifs. Each order is shipped from our workshop in France, with the required certificates of origin. Olivier is available to answer any questions you may have on size selection or installation.
