Red cedar burl(Tetraclinis articulata) is one of the most sought-after woods in cutlery for the unique richness of its figure. Native to North Africa - mainly Morocco and Algeria - this deeply veined reddish-brown wood is distinguished by its tormented grain, darker oval eyes and characteristic woody scent that emanates immediately after cutting. It is the stump of the tree, growing in clumps, that delivers this burr of unparalleled density and beauty.
At Mercorne, cedar burls have been selected for 34 years for the regularity of their shape and the quality of their finish. Each piece is cut in our workshop in France, into ready-to-install handles or blocks to be shaped according to your project. Our catalog is one of the largest in Europe for this material. Not sure which format or quality to choose? Olivier will personally answer all your questions.
