Ash stabilized | Wood for knife handles | Mercorne

Stabilized ash (Fraxinus excelsior) is one of Europe's most prized woods for knife makers, thanks to its vivid grain, sinuous veins and lightness in the hand. Subjected to a vacuum and pressure stabilization process, the wood is impregnated with resin throughout its mass, giving it enhanced resistance to humidity, shock and temperature variations. The result is a stabilized ash wood that is expressive, stable and easy to work with in the workshop.

At Mercorne, stabilization has been carried out in our own workshop in France since 2006, on boards and handles selected for their grain and aesthetics. Each piece is inspected before shipping. Custom stabilization is available on request - contact Olivier for specific projects.
