Amaranth wood (Peltogyne venosa), also known as purpleheart, is one of the most sought-after exotic woods in artisanal knife-making due to its deep color—an intense purple that shifts to reddish-brown when exposed to light. Native to South America (Brazil, Guyana, Suriname), it is distinguished by its high density, remarkable hardness, and tight grain, which give it excellent wear resistance and exceptional longevity.
At Mercorne, amaranth blocks and handles have been hand-selected for 34 years for the richness of their color and the consistency of their grain. Each piece is cut in our workshop in France, ensuring consistent quality with every order. Not sure about the dimensions or finish to choose? Olivier personally answers all your technical questions.
