Stabilized poplar burl | Knife handles | Mercorne

Stabilized poplar burl is one of the most sought-after woods for hand-crafted cutlery, thanks to the richness of its natural figure. The burr - the nodular outgrowth formed on the poplar trunk - generates unique, swirling, asymmetrical patterns, which resin stabilization freezes, densifies and reveals in all their intensity. The result is a material that is both stable in the workshop, resistant to humidity and visually expressive.

At Mercorne, each block of stabilized poplar burl is selected for the quality of its figure and the regularity of its impregnation. Cut in our workshop in France for 34 years, our materials are available in a range of colors and formats suited to the manufacture of knife handles. Not sure which block to choose? Olivier can personally answer all your technical questions.
