How do I choose a blended carbon for my knife?

The choice is essentially based on aesthetic criteria and intended use:

• Knife style: carbons with gold or silver inclusions are suitable for collector's or ceremonial knives. Versions with neutral or dark patterns are better suited to work or hunting knives.
• Knifemaker's level: this material is technically accessible from an intermediate level. It is easy to shape, but requires careful polishing to reveal the internal patterns.
• Blade match: blended carbon blends particularly well with mirror-polished or damascus steels, creating a visual coherence between blade and handle.

What's the difference between woven and blended carbon?

Woven carbon has a regular checkerboard or twill pattern visible on the surface. Blended carbon, on the other hand, is made up of fragments randomly assembled with resin: the patterns are therefore unique and non-repetitive, giving it its characteristic "damask" appearance.

Is blended carbon resistant to humidity and impact?

Yes, the epoxy resin that binds the fragments is waterproof, protecting the material from variations in humidity. Impact resistance is good, comparable to other composites in the carbon family. It is not a brittle material, but like all composites, a single violent impact can cause it to shatter.

How do I polish a mixed carbon handle?

We start with a progressive sanding (from 120 grit to at least 1000 grit), then move on to a polish on a polishing machine or by hand with a fine abrasive compound. This is the polishing stage that reveals internal patterns and metallic highlights. Finishing with wax or carnauba oil is optional, but gives a beautiful result.

Do these mixed carbons contain real gold or silver?
