Bubinga (Guibourtia demeusei) is a tropical wood from Equatorial Africa prized by knife makers for its pinkish-brown color with mahogany highlights and its particularly striking grain patterns. Dense and stable, it offers excellent wear resistance while remaining easy to work with—whether by hand or machine. Its tight, uniform grain lends itself equally well to satin finishes and mirror polishes, making it a versatile material for knife handles of all types.
At Mercorne, bubinga is selected for the quality of its grain and the consistency of its color, then cut in our workshop in France to standard cutlery sizes. The catalog offers planks, half-round pieces, and custom cuts to meet the needs of every project. Olivier personally answers any questions regarding the choice of size or thickness.
