Titanium

The reference material for high-end constructions. Titanium combines lightness, strength and corrosion resistance. It is appreciated in frame locks and high-end knives, where every gram counts. Its machining requires greater care, but the result is incomparable in terms of durability.

Bronze and brass

Mainly used as washers or pivot bushings, bronze and brass reduce friction between metal surfaces and significantly improve movement fluidity. They oxidize slightly over time, creating a slight natural self-lubricant appreciated in traditional folding cutlery.

How to choose axes and pivots for a folding knife?

Several criteria guide the choice:

• Diameter and length: to be adapted to handle dimensions and blade thickness. The wrong gauge will lead to unwanted play or jamming of the mechanism.
• Type of lock: frame lock, liner lock, slip joint - each mechanism has its own mounting constraints. Some pins are designed specifically for one type of construction.
• Cutlery level: a beginner working on a first folder will opt for standard stainless steel; an experienced cutler will look for titanium with ball bearings for a high-end finish.

What spacer thickness should I choose for a liner lock?

Spacer thickness depends on the space available between the liners and the handle inserts. In general, we work with between 3 and 5 mm for a medium-format folding knife. The key is to maintain sufficient space for blade movement while maintaining overall rigidity.
