Stabilized birch is one of the most versatile raw materials in the Mercorne catalog. Derived from Northern European downy birch(Betula pubescens), this wood undergoes a resin stabilization process that transforms its mechanical and aesthetic properties: the natural veins, burls and figures of curly birch stand out with remarkable intensity, while the material becomes denser, waterproof and stable in the hand.
At Mercorne, stabilized birch has been selected and stabilized in France for over two decades. Each block or handle is inspected before shipment, guaranteeing consistency and consistent quality. Available in a wide range of colors, thanks to the pigments incorporated during stabilization, it is equally suited to novice cutlers and experienced craftsmen. Not sure which block to choose? Olivier can personally answer all your technical questions.
