Impala horn(Aepyceros melampus) is one of the antelope horns most appreciated by artisan cutlers for its natural beauty and ease of processing. Native to the savannahs of sub-Saharan Africa, it is distinguished by its hues ranging from warm brown to deep black, with natural transitions that vary from piece to piece. Composed of keratin, it has the advantage of being heat-workable - with hot water, oil or a gentle heat source - allowing whole horns to be flattened or molded into bespoke handles.
At Mercorne, impala horn has been available for over 30 years: whole horns, wafers, calibrated pieces. Each batch is selected for homogeneity of color and quality of keratin, with no cracks or major defects. Our materials are cut in our workshop in France, guaranteeing consistency with every order. Not sure which format or thickness is right for your project? Olivier will personally answer all your technical questions.
